Blue Whales

Santa Barbara Channel, Channel Islands National Park, California, USA

The world's largest mammal and quite probably the largest animal ever known, the Blue Whale reaches up to 100 feet (30.5m) in length.  With that amount of bulk, it isn't too surprising that they don't raise their tail fins out of the water too often, making this a reasonably rare shot.  Once hunted to near extinction, recent protection efforts have been successful in preserving this gentle giant.
